I started making switch plates of my own art in 2004 in my basement ('studio') when my baby boys were asleep. After a lot of trial and error, I finally figured out how to make them PERFECT! I loved how they looked, and thought how cool they'd look with some of my favorite artists' work on them, plus the bonus of making artists more money (as I give the artist a cut of what I make)!
When I see art I love, I try to contact the artist to see if they'd be interested in me making switch plates for them - to resell at art shows or in their gallery. Some are into it, some aren't, but I always try... and hopefully i can sell their art for them.
I have found a number of small stores who dig this kind of work. And that's what I like - keep it small. Currently, it's just me and one other gal keeping up with all of this, now in a studio in the town of Crested Butte. It's so fun - being crafty and admiring other's art all day!
